Bay Area radio veteran Joe Hoskinson began his radio broadcasting career as a teen at his High School radio station KLEL in San Jose. At that point, Joe produced a weekly interview show “The Limelite” featuring top musical acts of the early ’80s (Joan Jett, Motley Crue, Greg Kihn, Y&T, Quiet Riot). Amongst Joe’s biggest radio influencers and heroes are Sheila Rene and Jim Ladd, who really shaped his radio persona.
During the late ’80s to mid-’90s, Joe pursued his love for radio and worked at Metro Traffic covering South Bay stations (KEEN, KBAY, and KSJO). He even hosted shows on 95.3 KRTY and 94.5 KUFX.
Immediately, Joe felt the power of radio with his strong connection to a growing number of fans and listeners. The new millennium brought more exciting opportunities including Operations Supervisor for Traffic.com. It was there that 3D traffic maps became available for broadcast TV. Joe wanted to do more in the media world. He started with doing fill-in traffic anchor work at KNTV. After a few years, Joe joined CBS5’s Early Edition.
Joe is a recent graduate of Diablo Valley College. Aside from working in radio, Joe has starred in several locally produced short films including the award-winning “Land of Opportunity,” which was featured in Cine+Mas SF Latino Film Festival. Joe enjoys spending his time shopping and browsing at Bay Area record stores. Joe loves a good Tom Petty record and recently joined a Zoom kickboxing class!
In 2018, Joe returned to KCBS Radio as a traffic reporter you can hear on Saturdays from 5 pm-11 pm. “It’s great to be back on KCBS,” said Joe. “To be among some of the best broadcasters in the Bay Area.” When he’s not doing a six-hour shift for KCBS, Joe is a full-time Assistant Program Director/Traffic Reporter/DJ at a Vacaville radio station KUIC under the alias Jeff Dorian.
