A verdict has been reached in the Ghost Ship trial and will be announced after 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Defendants Derick Almena and Max Harris have been charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the people who died during a fire at a warehouse party in Oakland in 2016.
Almena, the so-called master tenant, and Harris, the second-in-command of the artist collective that lived in the illegally converted building, face sentences of up to 39 years if convicted.
Prosecutors have alleged the defendants were negligent in their oversight of the warehouse in the Fruitvale neighborhood. The defense has said that city officials bear responsibility for turning a blind eye to building's conditions.
