The first weekend of the summer is getting underway, and if you're trying to get your plans to come into focus, this guide of things to do and tips about how to get around the Bay Area on Saturday and Sunday will hopefully be a help.. Every Friday afternoon, we publish this calendar of special events and alerts about planned disruptions to mass transit and the freeways.

If you download the RADIO.COM app and make KCBS Radio one of your favorite stations, we'll send the report directly to your phone.

There are some delays in store for people riding BART or using the VTA system this weekend. We’ve got single-tracking taking place on BART’s Yellow Line on Sunday while a bus bridge will fill in a gap on the VTA's Blue and Green light-rail lines on Saturday and Sunday.

Summer is festival season, of course. In Oakland, that means it’s time for Lakefest 2019 at Adams Point on Saturday. In San Francisco, Friday afternoon through Sunday evening, the huge comedy-and-music festival known as Clusterfest takes over the Civic Center/Bill Graham Civic Auditorium area. In Menlo Park, the Facebook campus will be the site of the Red, White and Brew Festival on Saturday; and in Sonoma County, motorheads of all ages will celebrate a sort of festival of their own as they flock to the Toyota/SaveMart 350, this weekend’s 3-day NASCAR extravaganza.

Have a great weekend!

BART:

Sun, Jun 23: from 8am to 8pm: On BART’s Yellow Line between Antioch and SFO/Millbrae, there will be delays in both directions due to single tracking. From 8am to 6:30pm, riders should brace for 15-20 minutes delays. That increases to 20 to 30 minute slowdowns until 8pm on both days.

SOUTH BAY:

Sat, Jun 22 and Sun, Jun 23: All this weekend VTA light rail passengers on traveling on both the Blue Line, between Alum Rock and Santa Teresa and the Green Line, between Mountain View and Winchester, will need to hop on board a bus if their travel takes them between Karina and Santa Clara Stations. This VTA service advisory has all the details, including links to the substitute bus schedules.

EAST BAY:

Sat, Jun 22 from 11am-8pm: LakeFest ’19 takes place at Oakland's Lake Merritt Boating Center at Adams Point. It features hundreds of artists and vendors, a beer garden, food zone, kids’ zone, health zone, tech zone, homegrown music and dance talent.

  • Areas and roadways affected: Likely heavier than normal vehicular and foot traffic in the Adams Point neighborhood.

PENINSULA:

Sat, Jun 22 from 1pm-6pm: Menlo Park: Facebook headquarters hosts the 2nd Facebook Festival of the 2019 season, Red, White, and Brew, with music on three stages, line dancing lessons, bull riding for charity, rides and games, artisan craft and food vendors, etc.

  • Pro tip: Facebook’s five monthly summer festivals offer free parking as well as free admission, which is good because public transit doesn’t offer a lot of good weekend options for getting to the FB campus.

SAN FRANCISCO:

Fri, Jun 21 (4pm-evening); Sat, Jun 22 (1pm-evening); Sun, Jun 23 (1pm-evening): San Francisco: Clusterfest, the big comedy and music festival, now in its third year, takes place at Civic Center Plaza and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. The venues will essentially be merged into one big, ticketed mega-venue with indoor and outdoor stages. Several streets in the Civic Center area will be closed to accommodate this event; a complete listing of the closures is in MUNI’s weekend traffic advisory.

  • Pro tip: If you’re going, simply take BART to the Civic Center Station, or take any Muni Metro line to the Van Ness or Civic Center stations.
  • Areas and roadways affected: Given the many street closures and popularity of this event, there is an extremely high likelihood of extensive congestion in the whole Civic Center area..

NORTH BAY/SOLANO:

Fri, Jun 21 thru Sun, Jun 23: Toyota/SaveMart 350 takes place at the Sonoma Raceway as part of the NASCAR Cup Series. A full schedule of events is here. Information on bus and limousine transportation to the raceway, and on reserving RV sites is here.

  • Areas and roadways affected: This is the biggest event of the raceway’s season so it will impact Highway 37, Highway 121 and Lakeville Highway.
