If you're walking around downtown Danville, you may spot some painted dog sculptures.

The creations are part of the town's new art exhibit called "Dogs of Danville, Unleashed!"

"We have a wide variety of dogs, different concepts, colors, designs," said Marija Nelson Bleier, visual arts coordinator for Danville.

Out of the 70 submissions, 15 sculptures were chosen for the exhibit. The artists, who come from across the East Bay, were given a blank canvas to design their work.

"We have one artist that did hers based off of Danville, so it has all of the streets," Nelson Bleier said. "She glued cars to it and it has our big oak tree."

People can view the dogs outside local businesses. The exhibit is also a way to attract visitors.

"The dogs are an approachable form of public art. They're fun. Kids like them. Adults like them. This is a super dog-friendly town," Nelson Bleier said.

The town has a passport program where visitors can stop by every dog sculpture and receive a stamp. The dogs will be on display all summer before they're auctioned off in September.
