OAKLAND — A large warehouse used by artists was badly damaged in a fire in Oakland on Friday.
Distraught artists gathered outside and watched firefighters attempt to extinguish the raging inferno for hours.
The former metal works plant was engulfed in flames at 11th Street and 23rd Avenue in the Jingletown neighborhood of East Oakland.
The 40,000-square-foot space houses m0xy, which offers studio space, an art incubator and mentorship to creative people, according to its website.
Seven to 10 businesses inside were "directly impacted," according to an Oakland Fire Department spokesman.
