SAN FRANCISCO — This is high season for the Parade Guys in a warehouse on Pier 54.
Stephanie Mofson, the company's owner, and her team of several dozen workers are putting the finishing touches on all but one of the floats in San Francisco's world-famous Chinese New Year Parade.
“After we’ve made the stuff, we make sure that it’s strong enough to withstand everything, which means we’re changing tires, we’re bolting things down, we’re stapling, we’re screwing, we’re welding,” Mofson said. “It’s all getting wired in and making sure that even on the bumpiest road this stuff is going to stay stable and strong.”
The parade, which is the culmination of weeks of celebrations, is scheduled for Saturday. This is the year of the pig, so expect a lot of pink pigs frolicking on gold coins, to represent prosperity in the new year.

Her crew also has to make sure everything glitters.
“We have vats of glitter. All different colors. We keep them in a giant barrel in the back, all different kinds,” said Brian Williams, one of the workers crafting the floats.
They are running low on gold glitter, but will make it to Saturday, he promised.
