SAN FRANCISCO — Admission to the permanent collections of the de Young museum and Legion of Honor will be, for the foreseeable future, free to San Francisco residents on Saturdays.
The new offering kicked off with music by Mission Delirium at the de Young. The perk for city residents will likely be popular with families.
"Raising kids here is expensive," said Lucy Robinson, whose husband and daughters were making dioramas inside the de Youngsters studio for families to make arts and crafts. "So yeah, anything's that's free we like to do. Not always, but this kind of things is great."
A visitor enjoying free admission on Saturdays might find a special tour, discussion or sketching in the galleries at either of the participating fine arts museums.
The de Young's Anna Present said,"we hope to hit a lot of new audiences — some families who've maybe never been here or are unsure of what the museum is."
