DALY CITY — It's the end of an era at the Cow Palace, which will no longer serve as a venue for gun shows.

The Palace's board of directors on Tuesday approved new rules that will prohibit firearms shows in the state-owned arena beginning next year.

It's a big change for the Cow Palace, which for more than 30 years has hosted Crossroads of the West, the largest gun show on the West Coast.

Now that event, and several smaller expos must relocate, because of the unanimous decision reached by the arena's board of directors.

Several gun control advocates spoke at the meeting, calling for the ban.

The Cow Palace board maintains that no firearm used in a violent act has ever been traced to a transaction conducted at one of its gun shows.
