A cliff collapsed at Fort Funston leaving one woman buried under a mound of sand despite a frantic search by more than 60 firefighters on Friday.
The search shifted from a rescue to a recovery mission after several hours of digging in the huge mound of sand by the crews, the San Francisco Fire Department said.
Another woman was able to free herself and call 911. She had been walking with the missing person and a dog around 2:40 when the cliff broke apart.
