There is a tentative agreement between Oakland's teachers union and the public school district to end a weeklong strike.

The Oakland Education Association announced on Twitter on Friday that they had reached "a historic no-concessions contract with a win in every major proposal we made."

After seven days on strike — with 95% of our members on the line, 97% of students out of school, and tens of thousands on our picket lines and rallies — we have reached a Tentative Agreement! #OUSDstrike pic.twitter.com/7CqZM2DLDY

The deal includes an 11 percent raise and three percent bonus for teachers, plus a commitment to reduce class sizes, according to Oakland Unifed Schools.

“Today marks a sea change for OUSD as we take a major step in support of our teachers and students,” said Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell said in a statement. “Our teachers are the core of everything we do as a school district, and we are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement that shows them how valuable they are. The contract will help ensure more teachers stay in Oakland and that more come to teach in our classrooms and support our students.”

The agreement comes on the seventh day of the strike. Schools had been open, but the vast majority of students had not attended classes.
