The rainbow-colored LGBTQ pride flag began flying atop the California Capitol building on Monday for the first time in state history.
Gov. Gavin Newsom requested the flag fly from until July 1 to commemorate LGBTQ Pride Month.
“By flying the pride flag over the State Capitol, we send a clear message that California is welcoming and inclusive to all, regardless of how you identify or who you love.," said Newsom in a statement.
Colorado and Wisconsin have also recently displayed the rainbow flag while the federal government has told U.S. embassies they many not hoist the flag.
