Santa Clara officials are locked in a dispute with the San Francisco 49ers over a $643,000 bill from the team for improvements it made at Levi's Stadium.

City officials are convening a special meeting next week to deal with the contested bill that stems from a flooring maintenance project.

The city, which leases the stadium to the team, says the Niners are in "breach of contract" and did not get approval to get the floors fixed. The officials have requested an audit of stadium spending .

In an email to the 49ers, city manager Deanna Santana said the stadium manager did not provide documentation showing proper bidding and minimum wage practices for the flooring project.

The scuffle comes after years of conflict between Santa Clara officials and the Niners over increased rent for using Levi's Stadium, a 10 p.m. curfew, for events held there and financial transparency.

The 49ers have said they are maintaining a venue with world-class standards while the city pursues frivolous grievances.
