Authorities filed multiple charges on Tuesday against the man they say was recorded punching a conservative activist on UC-Berkeley's campus last month.

Zachary Greenberg was charged with assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury, and criminal threats — all felonies — as well as a misdemeanor count of vandalism, according to Alameda County Superior Court records online.

Greenberg is allegedly the attacker in a widely seen video who punched Hayden Williams several times and overturned a table at Sproul Plaza on February 19.

University police arrested Greenberg on Friday.

Williams told university police that he had been "tabling" for Turning Point USA, a conservative student group, when two men approached him and an argument ensued. At that point, Williams started filming the altercation on his phone before being struck.

The case had become a rallying cry for conservatives who portrayed Berkeley as a danger zone for anyone who differed from the prevailing liberal political views.

Wonder if it would be the same if a conservative beat up a leftist on the Berkeley Campus?Conservatives call out Berkeley police for lack of arrest one week after campus assault on activist. https://t.co/CqKF66vBt1

Neither Greenberg nor Williams are Berkeley students, the university has said.
