SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS Radio) -- San Francisco police were investigating a Monday pre-dawn collision that left a motorist dead in the city's Richmond District.

It happened when a Nissan Sentra headed northbound on Park Presidio struck a Chevrolet pickup truck heading eastbound on California Street.

The crash forced the closure of all lanes of Park Presidio as well as all lanes on California Street. Park Presidio is a heavily-used commute route and the closure led to significant traffic backups.

It occurred barely 24 hours after a crash in San Francisco's Bayview District left two people dead and a third hospitalized.   That Sunday morning incident involved muiltiple vehicles at Third Street and Paul Avenue.
