Wildfire changes everything.
It can eliminate all in its path, but it can also offer unforeseen opportunity.
Lindsay and Greg Hamilton lost it all in the Nuns Fire in Sonoma County two years ago. Out of the ashes, they started a wine company.
"You kind of don't take risks because you're worried about what you could lose, but when you realize, 'Okay, I've already lost my house, so there's not very much more to lose,'" Lindsay Hamilton told KCBS Radio. "Then you kind of realize it's actually not as scary as maybe you thought."
So began Hamilton Family Wines. And the family says it's made with gratitude to Sonoma County.
"What really inspired us was the way the community came out for us after the fires, having only been there a year," Greg Hamilton said. "We just really felt the community just came up for us really, really strongly. We just felt the love in the air was thicker than the smoke."
As they both said, carpe diem. Seize the day.
