A resolution to decriminalize natural hallucinogenics, including "magic mushrooms," will get its first public hearing on Tuesday before the Oakland City Council's public safety committee.
The resolution would instruct law enforcement to stop investigating and prosecuting people who use the drugs.
It could go to the full council for consideration nest week.
Councilman Noel Gallo said he hopes the decriminalization of natural hallucinogenic drugs could help people with mental health issues, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
This comes just weeks after Denver voters approved the decriminalization of hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Statewide initiatives, meantime, are being floated here in California and in Oregon.
