Principal Dies After Being Shot By Wife, Police Say

 Paul Shatswell, the principal of Pittsburg Unified School District's adult education program, died from a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by his wife.

A principal in an East Bay school district died on Sunday from a gunshot wound inflicted by his wife, police said. 

Paul Shatswell, the principal of Pittsburg Unified School District's adult education program had been wounded in alleged domestic dispute on March 16. 

Pittsburg police said in a Facebook post that they plan to seek a murder charge against the 45-year-old father' of eight's wife, Maria Vides, 39.

The Contra Costa County district attorney's office had charged her with attempted murder last week.She's been jailed in Martinez with bail set at more than $2 million. 

Shatswell had been on life support since being hospitalized. Police found him with gunshot wound in the couple's home around 1:20 a.m. on March 16. 

Authorities accused Vides of shooting him with a handgun during an argument.
