(KCBS Radio) -- Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf wasted no time Tuesday in responding to a threat by President Trump to to make mass arrests starting “next week".
The President's threat came via Twitter and apparently referred to a plan under preparation for several months.
Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people.......
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 18, 2019Schaaf quickly rekindled her immigration-related dispute with the Trump, firing off her own tweet in response: "If you continue to threaten, target and terrorize families in my community... and if we receive credible information... you already know what our values are in Oakland — and we will unapologetically stand up for those values."
Last year, Schaaf angered administration officials by revealing the possibility of ICE raids in Northern California,. In the aftermath, the government said the sweeps netted 150 illegal immigrants but claimed the warning from Schaaf allowed over 800 others to escape.
