A pedestrian died on Thursday morning after being struck by a tractor trailer in what San Francisco police say was a hit and run, police said.
Michael Evans, 54, was identified by the coroner as the person who was run down by the truck at Market and Fifth streets around 5:40 a.m.
The burgundy truck that allegedly hit the pedestrian was left on Broadway near Battery Street, about two miles from the collision.
Police took a suspect into custody while other officers examined the vehicle with cameras and flashlights for evidence.
