DAVIS (KCBS Radio) -- A possibly geographically-challenged bear wandered onto the UC Davis campus on Tuesday, triggering a campus alert and bringing California Department of Fish and Wildlife agents to the scene.
Though UC Davis' sister campus at Berkeley salutes the bear as its mascot, this ursine interloper was found in an area near the UC Davis Arboretum. Campus officials quickly issued an alert via Twitter.

— UC Davis (@ucdavis) June 4, 2019About an hour later, campus officials issued an all-clear message. Fish and Wildlife agents had spotted the bear in a tree and fired a tranquilizing dart. A few moments later, the sedative took effect and the bear was captured. Officials said the bear would be taken to open country west of Davis to be released.
Experts at the scene said it appeared the bear was a young male which may have been pushed out of its den by its mother after new cubs arrived. Bears in that situation will often wander, seeking new habitat.
The UC Davis incident took place just days after a weekend bear sighting in Vacaville. In that case, a resident spotted a bear in her neighborhood during the night and shared her Nest doorbell camera video.
