KELSEYVILLE (KCBS RADIO) - Laujor, is a family run winery located in Kelseyville, Lake County. It’s one of my favorite wineries in the region, not just because it boasts stellar wines but is perched in a bucolic spot in the vine laden hills overlooking Clearlake.

A passion for the love of Big Cabernet Sauvignon wines turned into a reality, with a career change and an opportunity to purchase 15 acres of land in the highly-acclaimed Red Hills region of Lake County.  After planting the vineyard to primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and  Petite Sirah Cheryl made a decision to make the wines.

Laujor Wine
She is self-taught mostly, purchasing as many books in winemaking as she possibly could and then pursuing this burning passion to become a winemaker.

Cheryl started classes at UC Davis and created her own label Laujor Estate-using the 1st 3 letters of the name her children Lauren and Jordan.  2006 brought the first vintage and just one barrel. Laujor now produces twelve varietals and 1700 cases annually which they sell in the warm and inviting tasting room on the estate vineyard.

Enjoy my wine-fueled conversation with a wonderful Winemaker Cheryl Lucido who brings unbridled passion to all that she does and it shows in the glass. Be sure to pay a visit to the tasting room, order the cheese & salumi plate too, sit outside and soak up the wine and the spectacular Lake County views.

Cheers!

WINES NOTES

2017 Syrah Noir-A French Clone of Syrah. This wine is big, bold, and rich. Aromas of fresh Raspberries, very fruit-driven with Carmel streaming thru the palate and a delicate finish.

2017 Cabernet Sauvignon- Collie’s Cuvee- Red Hills Estate has grown Cabernet, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. A well-balanced spice box of flavors-notes of chocolate and cherry tobacco on the finish with soft tannins, very approachable.
