BELMONT — Caltrain riders who use the Belmont station should expect far more passengers at their stop in the coming months.

Later this year, Caltrain will close the Hillsdale Station in San Mateo for six month to work on the 25th Avenue grade separation project. Before reopening in early 2020 in a new location in Hillsdale, the diverted train traffic will be absorbed by Belmont's station.

"We do hope that our riders understand these grade separation are incredibly important for everyone and not just for safety, but also for traffic congestion relief," said Caltrain spokesman Alex Eisenhart.

Riders looking to reach Hillsdale may take a free SamTrams shuttle bus from Belmont, said Eisenhart. There should be ample parking to accommodate the Hillsdale commuter who temporarily use the station, he added.
