San Francisco unveiled a new street that's named after the Golden State Warriors on Thursday. The road isat the entrance to the nearly complete Chase Center at Mission Bay.
"The Warriors will be here forever, so it's an opportunity to celebrate and have [the arena] be a place that people will understand as our home," said Rick Welts, the Warriors' team president and CEO.
Welts said the late Mayor Ed Lee helped to make the name change from South Street.
"[Lee] grabbed it, embraced it, and promised to champion that. And here we are today with the result of that," Welts said.
Construction crews are now doing detail work on the arena. Electrician Keith Miller said he can't wait for the team to come down Warriors Way and into its brand new home.
"I can see the look on their faces," Miller said. "It's just beautiful inside."
The team gets the keys to the facility this week, and offiicals will have just days to prepare for the first concert that is set for September 6.
