SAN JOSE — Eight activists celebrated the dismissal of charges against them on Monday that stemmed from an anti-Google protest in which they chained themselves to city hall in December.
The group, known as "the Google 8," vowed to continue fighting the tech company's plans for a huge development of offices, housing and shopping in San Jose.
The next checkpoint in their quest will be on Tuesday when the city council votes on a host of housing proposals, including a $100-million investment in 11 sub-market housing developments.
The activists from Serve the People San Jose say that more of the housing should be for applicants with low-incomes or who are homeless. They will direct their energy directly at Google now that the sale of city-owned property, which they opposed in December, has been approved.
