CLAYTON — A series of suspicious brush fires broke out near Clayton early Saturday morning.
Authorities in eastern Contra Costa County evacuated some homes and issued shelter-in-place orders as they sought to contain and put out nine fires that started around 3 a.m.
The fires, which have burned 655 acres, have been named the Marsh Complex fire by Cal Fire.
Helicopters were being used to try to suppress the flames.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Cal Fire said.
