SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco is more aggressively trying to reduce the problem of human waste fouling city streets with a pilot program that introduces public restrooms.
"We have seven new pit stops that are going to be rolled out, so we need a lot more places for people to go to the bathroom as well as more deep daily sidewalk and street cleaning," said Supervisor Matt Haney
Earlier this week, President Trump called out San Francisco and Los Angeles for the "filth" on the streets, which he linked to how those cities deal with homelessness.
Gov. Gavin Newsom responded by saying that while the homeless problem is getting worse in California, San Francisco and Los Angeles are thriving with economic growth that exceeds the rest of the nation.
But Haney said there are multiple initiatives underway to keep the city's streets clean, such as purchasing 140 new trash cans and increased street cleaning and pressure washing.
"So I hope people see the difference on the streets and sidewalks and that creates more pride in our neighborhoods and we treat them accordingly," said Haney.
