Tesla is facing a lawsuit in Alameda County from a family that claims its Model X pinned a pregnant mother in her garage and broke her bones.
Mallory Harcourt was eight months pregnant when she and her husband brought home their brand new 2019 Tesla Model X. Three days later she was unloading groceries from the SUV when the Tesla suddenly accelerated into her, the lawsuit claims.
"She was pinned against the garage wall for about 10 minutes and in that time her pelvis was fractured in three different spots," the family's attorney Alison Gokal said to KPIX 5.
Gokal admits the Santa Barbara couple's two-year-old son was inside the Tesla at the time of the incident, but she told TV-station KPIX the Model X's poor design is at fault.
"Our goal is for Tesla to just take simple steps that all other car manufactures have done to ensure that this doesn't happen to another family," Gokal said. Tesla has responded to the lawsuit saying "the vehicle was operating as designed and responded to the inputs supplied, albeit in this case some of those inputs were reportedly coming from your client's young son."
Mallory gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
