Another ride-hail driver in the Bay Area has been accused of sexually assaulting a customer.
The driver, who works for Lyft, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of rape and false imprisonment after the Saturday night attack, San Bruno police said.
The victim, a 25 year old woman, was picked up at a bar in San Mateo county. She told police in San Bruno that she was intoxicated when she got in the driver's car and passed out in the back seat.
"I wish we could say we could sit back and relax and trust, but in today's world you cannot," Wagstaff said about getting into a stranger's car.
Some have called for tougher background checks for ride-hailing drivers. But better, more thorough screenings are no guarantee of riders' safety, Wagstaffe said.
"One of the drivers I recall was a resident of our county up in Daly City, married with two children. And he still did the sexual assault, so it was a crime of opportunity, and that is hard to predict," Wagstaffesaid.
San Bruno Police are trying to determine whether there are any other possible victims.
A statement from Wagstaffe's office said Kolokolo's initial felony arraignment was scheduled for Monday afternoon.
Lyft said in a statement that the accused driver's access to the ride-share app has been permanently removed, and the company was working with authorities.
