SANTA ROSA — Have you ever wished that you could properly express your enthusiasm for a buttery chardonnay or light-bodied sauvignon blanc on social media or in a text, but felt flummoxed that there's only a glass of red wine in the galaxy of emojis? Well, the vintners at Kendall-Jackson in Santa Rosa, are trying to end this inequity among oenophiles by pushing for the creation of a white wine emoji. "That's a problem for us," said winery spokeswoman Maggie Curry about the emoji's absence. "We're often considered America's favorite chardonnay and who better to kind of lead this effort and rally the community at large,"Kendall-Jackson has the country's top-selling chardonnay, she said, and last year began their effort to get their drink of choice represented on smartphone keyboards around the world. For it t become a reality, it must be approved by the Unicode Consortium, which regulates the colorful icons. To mobilize the support of sippers from albariño to viognier, there's a bright yellow billboard near the winery urging them to "join the movement" and use #whitewineemoji. It can take two years for the Unicode review to be complete"It would certainly save you time when I text you and ask 'What are you doing?'" said one man who was celebrating his anniversary in the tasting room with his partner.
