An accident on Highway 101 in San Jose left one person dead and several cars badly burned on Aug. 8, 2019.

One person died, several were injured and four cars were badly burned in a fiery collision on Highway 101 in South San Jose on Thursday morning. 

The accident, which occurred around 3:30 a.m. near the Highway 85 turnoff, had caused traffic heading north to back up into Morgan Hill. 


A four vehicle collision, and resulting fire, has all but one lane of northbound Hwy 101, north of Bailey Ave closed. Expect delays for a few hours. pic.twitter.com/5MznzN0Vsb

Authorities had initially closed all but the right lane, but after 8 a.m. all lanes were reopened to traffic.

Drivers looking for alternate routes had begun crowding the Monterey Highway and Santa Teresa Boulevard.
