SAN JOSE — Some things defy the odds. A Notre Dame High School student returned a long-lost class ring to its owner who graduated from the same school, but misplaced the ring a decade ago.
The Notre Dame high class ring was found by Candi Beers in a restroom at Valley Fair mall in Santa Clara 10 years ago, The ring remained in Beers' possession.
Fast forward to 2019 when Beers’ daughter, Maddie Manalo, is now a student at the same school. Manalo set out to locate the ring's rightful owner, which she said was easy with help from an official at the school.
"So I brought it in as I'm trying to order my own," said Manalo. "It's amazing that the timing is so alligned right now."
The reunion happened in an office at Notre Dame on Thursday. As it turns out, the ring belongs to Notre Dame alumnus, Raquel Zegarra, who was overjoyed to get it back.
"I never ever thought I would ever get it back to be honest," said Zegarra.
Zegarra called the return of her lost ring a blessing in disguise, because she'd been meaning to return to her alma mater to do some volunteer work.
