The Matrix series is back and San Francisco figures to be prominent in the fourth installment of the popular sci-fi franchise.
Warner Bros. released the highly-anticipated first trailer for "The Matrix Resurrections" on Thursday – stocked with "eye-popping and astonishing visuals that fans have come to expect" from the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

As expected, Keanu Reeves is back for another go as "Neo," with Carrie-Anne Moss returning as "Trinity." But it's a new star that's turning heads this time around: San Francisco's skyline splashed across the silver screen.
The trailer racked up 1 million views on YouTube just an hour after its release.
By Thursday afternoon, it was well over 10 million views.
Not to be outdone, "The Matrix Resurrections" trailer featured another San Francisco Easter egg in it with a remix of Jefferson Airplane's 1967 anthem "White Rabbit" playing throughout the clip. "The Matrix Resurrections," marking the the new film in the franchise since 2003, is scheduled to be released in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 22.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Christina Ricci and Jada Pinkett Smith are set to star alongside Reeves and Moss. No stranger to San Francisco, Reeves also appeared in 2019's "Always Be My Maybe," a Netflix comedy set in the city.

The "Resurrections" trailer comes as another blockbuster film – Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" – tops the box office with San Francisco as its backdrop.
