The 49ers had reportedly been 'up to something' in the quarterback market. Now we know exactly what that was.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the two teams are swapping first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, with San Francisco giving Miami several draft assets in their decisive move to climb up the draft board.
Schefter added that San Francisco is happy with all the available quarterback options that they can select with the No. 3 overall pick without a specific name in mind, presumably meaning they'll take whoever is available of Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Justin Fields. However, as Schefter noted, Jimmy Garoppolo is staying in San Francisco for now.
The Dolphins weren't really expected to draft a quarterback given the fact that they selected Tua Tagovailoa in last year's draft, giving them leverage to make a deal like this one from the No. 3 slot.
The future of the 49ers' and Dolphins' quarterback situations just became a little bit clearer, and we'll be excited to see how the story develops in San Francisco.
