If you’re craving a new voice to serve up the latest news, weather and sports, Amazon's Echo is getting a new name and voice.
The company has quietly started rolling out "Ziggy," to its assistant device, an arrival that will give Echo users a more "masculine-sounding option," CNET Executive Editor Roger Cheng told KCBS Radio’s Rebecca Corral on Monday.
Listen to a clip of "Ziggy" here.
The addition of the "Ziggy" wake word joins existing wake commands like "Alexa," "Computer," "Echo" and Amazon." Users can mix and match Ziggy’s and Alexa’s names with the female and male voices, as reported by CNET.
"If you want an option or a change of pace from Alexa, then Ziggy is your new option," Cheng said.
Echo users can toggle voice options – which Amazon calls "Original" and "New" – by asking your assistant to "change your voice." Users can switch over to the new wake word "Ziggy" by simply asking the device to "change your wake word."
What can Echo users expect from "Ziggy?"
"I imagine Ziggy’s attitude will be very similar to (Alexa)," Cheng added. "They’re fairly neutral."
This is the first male voice available on Echo since it was introduced in 2013.
