At 6:30 p.m., a call was made reporting a head-on collision on Bean Hollow Road near Pescadero. CHP spokesperson Art Monteal said one vehicle crossed the double yellow line and crashed into an oncoming car.
“Both vehicles ended up in the small lagoon that’s next to Highway 1. One of them was a Tesla that was fully submerged, the other one was a Subaru SUV that was partially submerged,” Montreal said. “Unfortunately two people lost their lives. One female in her 60s was transported to Stanford with major injuries and she was in critical condition.”
Divers from the San Mateo County Fire Department were brought in to attempt a rescue, but ended up recovering the bodies.
Montreal said that Highway 1 is a beautiful drive, but you have to pay attention because it is also dangerous with drivers often going much faster than the posted 55 mile-an-hour limit.
Investigators do not know if drugs, alcohol or distracted driving played a role in the horrific crash.
