Two people were found dead inside a vehicle underneath a Millbrae overpass on Thursday amid severe flooding.
At around 5:58 a.m., firefighters responded to Hemlock Ave. and E. Hillcrest Blvd. to an area of the road underneath Caltrain tracks.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities spotted two people standing on the roof of a vehicle submerged in the flooded water. Fire officials were able to rescue the two people, but were unable to reach a second vehicle also underneath the overpass.
“First responders attempted to gain access to the secondary vehicle,” San Mateo County police stated. “The conditions became too dangerous for first responders, as the floodwaters were rising rapidly.”
When the water eventually drained enough for firefighters to safely access the vehicle, they found two people dead inside. Their identities have not yet been released.
The area of Hemlock Ave. and E. Hillcrest Blvd. was closed for most of the day. Multiple areas of San Mateo County experienced flooding due to an overnight storm which drenched the Bay Area.
