SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A travel website has named two picturesque California destinations on their "No List" for travel destinations for the upcoming year.

Fodor's Travels is a tourist information and travel company that publishes an annual list of travel spots that they recommend people reconsider going to for the next year, for the sake of the place itself.

"For this year's No List, we're highlighting destinations to reconsider visiting in 2023 in three main categories: natural attractions that could use a break in order to heal and rejuvenate; cultural hotspots that are plagued with overcrowding and resource depletion; and locations around the world immediately and dramatically impacted by water crises," said the website.

The first California destination that’s been added to the list falls under the first category. Lake Tahoe has a "people problem," said the post.

Since the pandemic, people have settled in the Lake Tahoe area in droves as part of the great migration, according to the site. This has affected the overall traffic in the area as well as congesting the natural attractions that make the area so special.

The traffic in particular has become a major problem, contributing to sediment pollution from dust coming off the more heavily traveled roads.

To combat the issue local groups and officials are encouraging people to bike more often instead of drive around the area as well as a free shuttle that people can take to various popular spots around North Lake Tahoe, according to the website.

The second California spot on the "No List" falls under the third category, an area that has been dramatically impacted by the water crisis.

Mendocino is a beautiful beach town, which with its enchanting cliffside trails and beaches attracts tourists year-round.

But due to the ongoing drought issues facing the state of California, this area, in particular, saw a rise in costs to keep establishments with running water, according to Fodor's Travels.

Spots that made the list included parts of Thailand, France, Hawaii, as well as many others.

Tourists can help mitigate the issues plaguing these areas by being more conscientious and just doing their due diligence and research the place they plan on visiting for tips to better support the region.
