Three fishermen were in Tomales Bay on Monday morning when their boat began taking on water. Soon their vessel capsized, and they were ultimately rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard later that morning.

"Thankfully, this case had a successful outcome," said Lt. Cmdr. Megan Dennelly, the Sector San Francisco Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator. "The use of Rapid SOS, a GPS verification tool, allowed our search planners to receive positional data during the early stages of the case to quickly get assets on scene. This capability expedited the Coast Guard's response and helped save the fishermen's lives."

The Coast Guard's San Francisco team received a report of the capsized boat from the California Highway Patrol around 9:30 a.m.

The three fishermen were stranded, sitting on the hull of their capzised vessel.

A Coast Guard Station Bodega Bay 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew was dispatched soon after the report came in, at around 9:40 a.m., arriving just at about 10 a.m. to the scene.

The rescue was successful, and none of the fishermen were injured.

The men were taken to the Bodega Bay Coast Guard station and were treated for hypothermia.
