Zelda's on the Beach on the esplanade has faith they'll be reopening their doors after being battered by last week's storms.

Zelda's is currently surrounded by chainlink fences and residents have been wandering by, wondering when the local favorite will reopen.

"We've been here since 1978," said Josh Whitby, co-owner of Zelda's who runs the kitchen.

The restaurant is popular for its drinks and its waterside views, serving classic seafood dishes like clam chowder and fish and chips.

"This is my life, my livelihood, it’s my kids' livelihood, it's where they've grown up," he said. "It's heartbreaking but we'll be back – stronger, better."

Whitby and his team are still awaiting word from officials as to when they’ll be able to get back inside their restaurant and start cleaning up.

Other restaurants in the village have been wrecked by the storms, leaving some without power.

Last week's storms left Capitola decimated by the massive waves drummed up by the wind, destroying the wharf.

This week, a second round of storms is likely to hinder whatever progress is being made in the cleanup and repair of the Santa Cruz village.
