The San Francisco 49ers, in partnership with the California Natural Resources Agency, on Monday announced the launch of their first ever California license plate.

The 49ers plate, another in a line of specialty license plates being released by the Department of Motor Vehicles, features the team's historic SF oval logo and a red, gold and white trim, which the team said is reminiscent of the pant stripes on the 49ers' team uniforms.
All proceeds from the license plate sales will benefit California State Parks and the 49ers Foundation, the team’s non-profit arm which has been helping Northern California communities for over 30 years.
"We really focus on youth education and youth empowerment," Justin Prettyman, Executive Director of the 49ers Foundation, told KCBS Radio. "Providing opportunities for youth and families who are furthest from opportunities."
Now, if you want to take your fan status to the next level, getting a team plate benefits that foundation and the state parks. The words "Faithful to State Parks" are written in red at the bottom of the plate.
"This gives you another layer of connectivity with the team and that’s just really cool and really powerful," Prettyman said. "There are fans that can feel connected and as contributors to our efforts in the communities through these license plates."
In addition, there's already a rivalry brewing at the DMV between the 49ers and their Southern California rivals.
"The Rams already have a plate, they got a little bit of a jumpstart on us, but we are faithful that the faithful will show up at the DMV and have those plates all the way from the 1 to the 5 and all tops in between," Prettyman said.
He added that team loyalists should display their team pride proudly on California roads.
"Especially for fans who have been with the team through thick and thin, it’s gonna be pretty cool to see you and the next person with the license plate pull up to a stop sign and just give each other a nod that we’ve been through it," he said.
