5 arrested after violence breaks out at San Jose soccer stadium

Soccer fans started a brawl at San Jose's PayPal Stadium on Thursday night, according to reporting by KNTV.

The Earthquakes match versus Mexico's Cruz Azul the venue ended with multiple fights and at least one shooting, according to San Jose police.

The stadium and parking lots were inundated with more than 40 officers. As the violence escalated, police declared the brawl an unlawful assembly. Police arrested five people including one for a firearms violation, and one person was injured by a bullet graze.

Multiple people were taken to the hospital but none of the injuries were life-threatening.

The game was disorderly from the start, with one fan at one point running onto the field and punching a player, the station reported.

Information has yet to be released as to what started the fighting.
