Over the past two weeks, at least 65 students and nine staff members at Los Gatos High School have come down with a coronavirus infection, KNTV reported.
A letter was sent out to parents Tuesday night warning that of the 65 cases, 50 students were potentially infectious on campus. Over 2,000 exposure notices have been given, covering nearly everyone at the high school.
Principal Kevin Buchanan believes the spike occurred after students returned from spring break in April. "Despite what might be happening nationally, we are seeing a local increase, especially at our school," he told the news station.
To slow the spread, students now check in with an app on their phones before each class to ensure they do not have any symptoms. The school has also ramped up testing, is encouraging mask use and has moved their junior prom outdoors, the station said.
