San Francisco has earned itself a solid B so far in the pandemic.
Mayor London Breed announced in a tweet Sunday that 80% of eligible residents in the city have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
While this marks one of the highest vaccination rates for a major city within the country, there’s still more work to be done, Breed wrote.
This news comes as more and more health officials are considering opening up a third booster shot of the vaccine to those eligible to help stem the surge of the highly contagious delta variant.
Schools that just reopened for the fall semester have been dealing with a spate of new cases throughout the Bay Area. Earlier this summer one unvaccinated teacher in Marin contributed to a major outbreak of new cases.
There are 683,699 residents age 12 and up who have been vaccinated in San Francisco. Of those, 86% have received at least one dose and 80% have been fully vaccinated.
