A second Altamont Corridor Express train bound for Fremont from Pleasanton was stopped Wednesday morning in the same area where a train was struck by a mudslide on Tuesday.

The agency cited debris on the tracks as the reason for the stall. The 223 passengers on board the train were momentarily stranded before turning back towards Pleasanton. They arrived safely at their destination where ambulance and fire crews were waiting, but no injuries were reported.

"We hit something," Chris, a passenger on the train, recounted the experience to KCBS Radio. "It's the first time we've ever hit anything and — well I shouldn't say that we usually hit a shopping cart here and there — but nothing like that and to awaken me like that it was pretty jarring."

The slide brought a mess of trees, mud and rocks up against the train. Altamont Corridor Express has canceled all trains until Monday as Union Pacific works to clear the tracks.

On Tuesday morning, more than 220 passengers were stuck for hours on the ACE in Niles Canyon after a landslide hit the train. A rescue train eventually saved the passengers and transported them to Pleasanton.

Landslides will remain a threat for days or even weeks following the copious amounts of rain that impacted the Bay Area over the past month.
