When television was in its infancy, a local repairman kept busy by helping anxious families gather around their set.
But now owner John Wentzel will close Aladdin’s radio and television repair shop in San Francisco’s Sunset District after more than 70 years in business. Surrounded by radio tubes that once glowed with the sounds of CBS Mystery Theatre, Wentzel reminisced about the work of his work back in the day.

"We took this building over in 1950," Wentzel said. "There wasn’t much tv at the time, mostly radio work."
But then television changed Wentzel's life and shaped his career for years to come. "Then when tv came, I started working on television sets and making service calls and stuff," he added.
Wentzel is 98 years old as he closes up shop at Irving St. and 17th St.
On Sunday he will host a public giveaway of electronics artifacts from the last seven decades.
