BART released a statement on Wednesday explaining that they are unable to accommodate the Oakland A’s late-night schedule.
The press release clarified that the rapid transit service could not accommodate A’s fans who wished to hitch a ride after the post-game fireworks show on June 2.
The statement was met with great contention as individuals felt it was unfair. BART had previously run late-night trains for the San Francisco Giants’ post-game events.
President of the A’s Dave Kaval took to Twitter to express his feelings.
“Super disappointed that @SFBART won't be running trains after our big fireworks night especially since they ran trains for the @SFGiants similar games,” Kaval said. “I hope they reconsider their decision. We should not receive lower service levels here in the East Bay.”
A representative with BART explained that the train has limited options because of a collective bargaining agreement. The only reason for their current night service is because of employees who responded to a call for overtime.
However, in an early statement on Thursday, BART revealed that they will return to “near pre-pandemic service” on Aug. 2, more than three weeks earlier than their original plan of Aug. 25.
Between July 15 and July 31, BART will also open late-night service on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for trains leaving certain stations in San Francisco.
