San Francisco Police have announced an arrest in a brazen daytime assault on two elderly Asian Americans on Market St., one of which fought off the attacker herself and sent him to the hospital with injuries.

The two victims, a 75-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man, were treated and released following the incident, the aftermath of which was captured on video.

The suspect is 39-year-old Steven Jenkins. Police said Thursday he’s also thought to have been involved in a fight at the U.N. Plaza about a half hour before he assaulted the elderly man, ran as an officer chased him and then assaulted the elderly woman.

Both incidents, while separate, are believed to have been unprovoked.

Xie, a 26-year resident of San Francisco, spoke with KPIX-5 about the attacks, telling the station she’s "very traumatized, very scared."

Jenkins was treated at a local hospital for "an unrelated, prior medical condition."

He’s been booked at the San Francisco County Jail on charges of assault likely to produce great bodily injury and elder abuse.

There are GoFundMe campaigns for both of the victims, identified on the pages as Ngoc Pham and Xiao Zhen Xie. The fundraiser for Xie has raised over $640,000 as of Friday morning, the most-viewed GoFundMe effort on the site right now as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

So far, more than $125,000 has been raised for Pham.
