SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Green Line service on BART is now projected to return Tuesday – a week after a large fire shut down Green, Blue, and Orange Line service.
The electrical fire affected service from Lake Merritt to both Dublin/Pleasanton and Berryessa.
The transit agency said Thursday that its crews are still working to make repairs to the trackside train control equipment that was damaged by the fire.
It stated that it is still investigating what caused the fire.
“We know there was an electrical fault on our DC power system, from our 1000 volt DC cable that was part of BART's original system (50+ years old) and a fire started,” BART said in a post on X. “The fire then damaged trackside train control equipment and sections of fiber and our 34.5kV cable.”
The agency added that while faults are not uncommon for the system, the size of this fault is very rare. It explained that these issues are typically isolated by things like transfer trips and circuit breakers.
Every station is operational at the moment. People who typically use the Green Line will need to transfer to complete their trips between the Orange Line to Berryessa and the Red, Yellow, and Blue lines to Daly City.
