BART has suspended service on the red line until further notice due to "power issues" on the line, according to a statement by the transit agency released Tuesday evening.

While the red line is not in service, trains between Richmond and MacArthur stations will be limited to the orange line, and will likely last for the next few days.
The red line started experiencing issues on Sunday causing major delays and then again on Monday. At the time, BART spokesperson Alicia Trost, said that the two were unrelated, saying the incident Sunday was caused by a "cable fault" and the one on Monday was a "substation failure" as previously reported by KCBS Radio.
But according to Tuesday’s statement, BART experienced a power traction cable break between El Cerrito Plaza and Ashby stations on Sunday, and then on Monday a substation failure in the same section led to power loss at two different stations.
Officials have determined that Sunday's cable break is at fault for the current service issues. BART has been working to replace the cables that broke, which were first installed in the 1970s, "and have outlasted their useful life 50 years later," said the statement.
These particular cables were scheduled to be replaced on Thursday, just a few days before the break happened.
While the break is being repaired, the orange line is running on schedule. Riders between Richmond and Ashby that are trying to get to or from San Francisco or SFO will need to transfer between an orange line train and a yellow line train.
A shuttle train will be running between SFO and Millbrae.
