Bay Area airports are expecting a high volume of travelers trying to get away for the Thanksgiving holiday at an earlier date this year.
With schools closing and more people opting to take the entire Thanksgiving week off, Doug Yakel, a spokesman for San Francisco International Airport, is expecting that people will start traveling earlier.

"We think that Friday Nov. 19 will be the busiest day of the Thanksgiving travel season for us," Yakel told KCBS Radio.
Mineta San Jose International Airport is also gearing up for a busy Thursday and Friday of this week. But Oakland International Airport believes their busiest travel date to be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
About 80% of shops and restaurants have reopened at SFO.
"We have reopened our sky terrace observation deck; our video arts room is reopened," Yakel said. "So, a lot of the things that people enjoy about SFO they're back as well, and that is really great to see."
The Sunday after Thanksgiving will be a busy arrival day with inbound passengers returning to the bay. Airports are prepared and have staffed up for holiday volumes.
Air traffic is expected to be well above last year but not quite to pre-pandemic levels.
